A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)Since Freddy Krueger recently joined the ranks of Mortal Kombat I felt it was time to take a look back on this horror icons film career. For the next several days I’ll be reviewing the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” films in consecutive order via their DVD releases. The original A Nightmare on Elm Street is considered by many to be one of the best horror films ever released. It takes a very realistic fear, the fear of dying in your nightmares, and brings it to life on screen. This film was so successful at the box office that it spawned six sequels, 1 remake, a short-lived TV Series, and even a crossover film with the Friday the 13th franchise. So without further delay let’s get into this DVD Review of A Nightmare on Elm Street.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
Another year, another terrible horror remake from Platinum Dunes is released the infamous production company owned by Michael Bay that has ruined several horror franchises like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror. Last year I was pleasantly surprised when they released the reboot for Friday the 13th it was gritty and actually made Jason scary again, it had restored my faith in Platinum Dunes. We’ll this year they’ve released a remake/reboot of The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge
When it comes to horror movies there’s one thing a studio should never do and that’s rush a sequel into production just so it can make a quick buck. Every single time a studio has done this it always ends in disaster, with the film being rushed and half assed. One of the best examples of why a studio should never do this is none other then the dismal sequel to the original A Nightmare on Elm Street entitled, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge. It seems like the only revenge Freddy had was on the audience who paid money to see this crap in theaters.
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Thanks to the Hurricane last week I got a bit side tracked with my DVD Review pile, today on the chopping block I’m taking a look at the third sequel in the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise entitled conveniently A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Unlike the previous sequel Freddy’s Revenge, Dream Warriors is more of a direct sequel to the original film even having Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) returning to the franchise. Also Wes Craven returned to the franchise to write the script for the film despite being dead set against “A Nightmare on Elm Street” turning into a franchise. Anyway let’s get into my review of “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors”.
A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master
Once again I’m catching up on my backlog DVD review pile, today I’m taking a look at the fourth entry in the “A Nightmare on Elm Street” films conveniently entitled A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. As I said in my last Nightmare On Elm Street film review after A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors the franchise starts going downhill. The special effects get flashier but the plot/script start lacking. So without further adieu let’s get into this review of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.
A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child
Once again I’m catching up on my backlog DVD review pile with yet another horror film. You’d figure I would have waited till October to roll out these sorts of reviews but why wait? October is busy enough for us here on the site with our Live Coverage of New York Comic Con 2011. Anyway you’ve heard this from me in several of my reviews, the cardinal sin any horror film can ever commit is rushing a sequel into production immediately after the previous film. The end result always is a half assed rushed sequel intended to cash in on the success of the previous installment. It’s the reason why A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge failed so miserably. Today we’re taking a look at yet another installment in that franchise that commits this cardinal sin, A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child.
